Elma Rubright, Fiybder/Former Chair of Salt Spring LiteracyOUR HISTORY

Salt Spring Literacy was founded by a group of volunteers at a grass roots level in partnership with the Salt Spring Public Library and Continuing Education, and in consultation with School District 64 and Salt Spring Community Services.

After being incorporated under the Society Act of Canada, we recieved funding from a number of sources including Legacies 2010. This enabled us to hire a part time Literacy Outreach Coordinator and an Educational Consultant. At the end of 2009 we recieved funding from ESLSAP which made our part time coordinator full time!

After many moves around Ganges we are now settled at 126 Hereford Avenue. It is the big blue building by Cafe Talia. Come by and see us sometime! We would love to show you around!

In three years we have grown to be a vital part of island life in our own right! We have helped close to one hundred learners (so far!) achieve their goals; whether it was learning to read, figuring out how to use a computer, speaking French or passing university entrance exams! Whatever your educational goal we will try our best to help!
